Crackdown to have Flying Vehicles?
Tuesday, March 27, 2007, 05:03 PM

You really don't need much transportation to get around in Crackdown. Swallow a few hundred agility orbs and leaping from one side of the map to the other is effortless. But, now that most gamers have started replaying the game simply due to lack of anything better to do until the Halo 3 beta goes online, the team at Real Time Worlds is prepping their downloadable content -- and it could include some surprises.

Speaking to Eurogamer, producer Phil Whilson mused on how they had originally ruled out including airborne vehicles into Crackdown because of the focus on player agility and possible engine limitations. At the end of development, however, they realized the engine could certainly handle allowing players to rule the skies:

"Since nothing's announced for the forthcoming downloadable content I have to be careful what I say about it, but flying vehicles are something that we initially decided to steer well clear of. As it happens that latter concern was irrelevant because, as you can see in the finished game, the existing engine can handle immense draw distances and rapid streaming... so airborne antics is definitely not off the table going forward."

Also arriving in an upcoming content patch are new game modes (including one co-op one that was actually influenced by a YouTube video) and the ability to reset gangs for players who'd rather continue playing with their current character, rather than starting over.

Being able to fly into a gang member and kill them would probably get me to play this game. But for now it is sitting in it's GameFly sleeve awaiting my decision of sending it back, or waiting for the Halo 3 Beta. What do you guys think? Will it be worth the wait?

McDonald's the flash game
Monday, March 26, 2007, 07:40 PM
http://www.mcvideogame.com/game-eng.html

It's early Monday morning and I know you don't want to get to work at your job. You'd much rather slaughter diseased cows, sell the contaminated burgers to children, start brainwashing commercial campaigns, and then use your profits to destroy the environment and pay corrupt government officials to overlook all of the above. It's not 1080p and there's no achievements to be unlocked, it's just a flash game that could easily waste half an hour of your time.

Gameplay involves managing crop fields, slaughter houses, McDonalds employment, and financial offices. When one of the four areas gets out of hand its little yellow light will flash to get your attention, and as the seasons and years pass it all gets harder and harder to handle. I kept getting rich quick, and then hitting bankrupt hard - it took me a while to figure out that you're allowed to demolish the entire forest and even the guy's retreat in it. The sooner you're an asshole, the better, I suggest taking advantage of the brainwashing children schemes as soon as you open up more than one register. And for some reason the cashiers puke on themselves when they're bored, don't be afraid to fire their acne asses.

You can play the game here, but be prepared for an evil Ronald McDonald to show up often and yell at you for bankrupting the company.

Devil May Cry and Sony Fanboys
Monday, March 26, 2007, 05:54 PM
"To: Capcom, We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment [sic] to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold [sic] our option of buying your product."

Ok wow these people are seriously demented. Why should the fact that Capcom has made one of their more popular games available to MORE people without denying the original users, be a bad thing? If I own a PS3 by the time it comes out, I'll probably still buy it on a PS3. They are not disallowing me to play it on a Sony platform, they are just allowing all the owners of the 360 to play it also. This isn't a loss for the gamers out there, but a gain. Companies can't make a profit if the user base isn't there.

Week of Gaming
Friday, March 23, 2007, 05:40 PM

First let me start by saying that I love Castlevania! After recovering my Gamer Profile from a corrupted file on the HD I am back in business. That was a headache and a half, but I'm back and was able to download myself a copy of SOTN. I am very impressed with this port. With the added pixel blur it helps to not be such a sore on the eyes. The bad voice acting is in tact and the controls at first seem a little off, but you adjust real fast. The only real complaint I have is that Start brings up the XBLA game menu and not your in game menu. That is very disorienting and I wish you could change it like you can all the other buttons, but it's a no go. If you haven't played this game and are a fan on the GameBoy/DS games then check this out. It is where all the love started!

Now the game that has truly taken a hold of my time is God of War 2. This is one heck of a beautiful game. I have it hitched up to my 32" 16x9 TV via the component cables so I'm getting 480p. Sitting on my couch about 10feet away it looks every bit as good as a 360 game. Up close its a slightly different story, but in no means is it nasty looking.

The sense of scale in GOW2 is simply amazing. One minute you are fighting in your standard area with some nice surroundings, to then climb a ladder and have the camera pull back and reveal that you are on this colossal structure. Then to run down a chain that is larger then you, you get the epic feeling at every turn in this game. When I loaded up the first level, my jaw dropped. I think I've been licking carpet ever since as I haven't got around to even notice my jaw on the floor.

This game is a MUST buy! On a side note, check the link to see Penny-Arcade's
impressions.

Slow News day has perfect timing
Tuesday, March 20, 2007, 07:16 PM
Having such a slow news days couldn't have happened to me at a better time. My PC shit the bed this morning. I went to reboot and install a new DVD burner in my system and it would not boot back up again. Long story short, I'm glad that the Windows Repair functionality on the Vista discs does work!

I'm going tomorrow to finally upgrade my aging system to a Serial ATA setup so I can finally get me Windows Vista score over 5.0, and so my primary drive is no longer only 40gb in size.

But I did burn my first Lightscribe disc today and WOW does it look great. I wasn't expecting it to come out as clear as it did. The contrast was a little off, but I didn't want to spend 45min making my first disc testing out the feature. I must say I think it is really nice and a GREAT way to make labels that don't smudge/look like shit. I'm still going to wait to pass judgment until after I've burned through all 25 discs to see if the extra 30-45min is worth the labeling time.
